     ˇHola Todo!
Thanks so much for your continued interest in my books and career, I feel like I have quite the cheering squad at this point. So I am especially thrilled to share my latest news with you - I have just sold my first picture book as author/illustrator!!! It's called "Soap, Soap, Soap, jabón, jabón" and as another bilingual Jack Tale adaptation, is a follow-up to Paco and the Giant Chile Plant. Right now it's set to release in either Fall 2009 or Spring 2010 - we'll see.
This is the culmination of a lifetime of dreaming and seven years of hard work when I finally dove into children's books as a serious goal. Yes, I've sold articles, a poem and short story, but this will be the first book with my name on the cover as sole creator. Truly, a dream come true.
Since it is also bilingual, I'll be continuing my Spanish lessons. I've reached that awkward stage where I know enough to realize I'm butcherinig the language, but don't know enough to fix it. Still, my class experiences at the Latin American Association have changed my life, and I feel like I've been adopted by an incredibly warm and appreciative culture.
Meanwhile, the demand for Paco and the Giant Chile Plant has been astounding. I had no idea the need there was for bilingual books in America, a need that is only just beginning to be met. Paco is already into its second printing and I continue to receive requests from schools and events to share Paco.

PACO AND THE GIANT CHILE PLANT ~
PACO Y LA PLANTA DE CHILE GIGANTE

written by Keith Polette
illustrated by Elizabeth O. Dulemba
Raven Tree Press
Trade Picture Book - Available NOW!!!
Paco takes the familiar "Jack and the Beanstalk" tale and gives it more than a few new twists. Told as a fractured fairy tale, our hero, Jack, is now called Paco, and the story takes place in a beautiful desert setting in the American Southwest.
The story is presented as an English text with embedded Spanish in rojo. A vocabulary page is included to jump start learning in either language.

Speaking of sharing Paco, I'll be appearing twice at this weekend's Decatur Book Festival! With over 250 talented creators speaking all over the square, this is truly a magical affair and I'm thrilled to be included. You can come hear me read at:

Mingei World Arts at 11:30 am Saturday, August 30th (today)
and on
The Children's Main Stage at 5:00 pm on Sunday, August 31st.

I will also be at the CBAIS - Children's Book Authors and Illustrators of the South booth for most of the weekend - right in front of the children's stage. This is a new group of 20 award-winning, traditionally published authors and illustrators living right here in our area. Our purpose is to alert people to the talent they have in their own back yard and be a resource for schools and events looking for speakers.

The energy and love for books surrounding this festival are such fun and I'm already in the thick of it - you can read MY BLOG for a day by day round up. I hope you'll make it by!

And don't forget my latest two books:
Author Stacey Kaye and I have several tag-team engagements coming up which you can read more about at my calendar page.
