Illustration Friday: Sprout

Funny theme this week, and it happens to go with the picture book I'm currently illustrating, "Paco and the Giant Chile Plant," which will be released by Raven Tree Press in June, 2008.
I'm so happy to be working on this bilingual story (it's the reason I'm finally taking Spanish lessons).
Here, Paco has planted his chile seed when suddenly the ground rumbled and grumbled and a chile plant shot into the sky.

¡Qué linda tu ilustración, Elizabeth! Como de costumbre, no deja de sorprenderme que has ilustrado tantos cuentos como para tener siempre una magnífica opción para IF.

Buena suerte con tus clases de español ;)

I love the movement in the illo, you can feel the trembling of the ground as this sprout gathers strength. Beautifully done!

I love the look of surprise and anticiaption on both their faces. The colors are so warm and rich...like the rising sun of a hot day.

Great job on the expressions and action of the scene and characters. The boy somewhat frightened, but also in a state of wonder and awe. And the dog ready to defend. Nice work all around.

That was convenient! Did you intentionally make it a bit off register? It's dizzying!
