![]() 10 September 2019: All manner of beasties Forward | Web Version | Subscribe ![]() Winthrop provided me with a new iPad Pro, and I'm having a blast working on it in Procreate. I can get some beautiful line quality - something I'm trying to impress on my students. (I'm turning them all into line geeks.) Meanwhile, what do you think Princess Leia was like as a child? Did she have a stuffed Wookie? Maybe so! CLICK HERE for more coloring pages. Remember, I create my coloring pages to draw your attention to my books! For instance... my picture book, Crow Not Crow - written by New York Times Best-selling author Jane Yolen and Adam Stemple. Kirkus calls it "a solid choice for introducing the hobby [birdwatching] to younger readers." Or Merbaby's Lullaby, came out this summer, with great reviews from Kirkus and PW! ![]() ![]() If my news and images add value to your life, won't you please ![]() Just love this one image? Consider a one-time donation... ![]() ![]() I was thrilled to learn that Tony DiTerlizzi has an exhibit at The Mint Museum (Randolph location) in Charlotte, North Carolina right now. CLICK HERE to see more fun photos and learn about the exhibit! ![]() One of the things I missed while working independently for all those years, both on picture books and my PhD, was the cameraderie of the proverbial water coolor. I was reminded how lovely that opportunity for the daily exchange of ideas can be this week, in the most charming way. In passing, I mentioned to a colleague that I wanted to eventually get a small refrigerator for my office. Unbeknownst to me, the word spread and VOILA! A fellow professor got in touch to give me her refrigerator! I was tickled silly and so appreciative. So, of course, I had to make her a card... #artswinthrop #designwinthrop ![]() One of the classes I'm teaching at Winthrop University this semester is figure drawing. It requires the same tools that have been used for hundreds of years - charcoal - charcoal sticks, blocks, pencils, you name the form, as long as it's charcoal. Of course, figure drawing doesn't have to be limited to only the human figure. CLICK HERE to read more about it. ![]() Just a reminder - I'm selling original artwork in MY ETSY STORE. Quite a few are still available including my tribute to Diana Wynne Jones' Howl's Moving Castle. Pieces range in price from $250 to $500. They are exciting pen & ink or pencil drawings, at A4 dimension, offered as original unframed artwork, signed and with a certificate of authentication. Patreon contributors can download a PDF of the images for free! ![]() CLICK HERE to check out this week's interesting links, including articles like these: • I just wanted to remind everyone that PICTURES MEAN BUSINESS • The best drawing apps for the iPad Pro • Why We Need to Talk More About Mental Health in Graduate School ![]() People think that learning how to draw really well is really hard. But I'm here to tell you that keeping the naive joy of childhood art in your work as you grow is one of the hardest things to do of all. So, I flipped when I saw Emma Lazell's BIG CAT and it's raw joyous style. How did she do that!? Happily, she dropped by recently to talk about it! CLICK HERE to see some fabulous, joyful images!
